Goodness Gracious

Goodness Gracious ("Gracie")
We have to put Gracie first. She'd have it no other way. A combination of loveable and completely willful. A real lion. Our answer to that teenager who keeps you up all night wondering "who runs this family, anyway?" She's why they came up with the phrase "man's best friend." She's never on a leash since she's never left your side. That may be her best quality. Her worst is when she doesn't want to do something... that's when you'll see us across the hall--two mature adults on their knees trying to reason with her (all the while bribing her with cookies). She may heed, she may not--it's up to her-- just give her space! Recently she lost her hearing (self inflicted from all her barking, no doubt), so don't think she's ignoring you if she doesn't come over when you call her name. Gracie is sixteen years old and is still a wonderful companion, and an even better mother...

Jeepers Creepers
a.k.a. "Jeepers" |
Jeepers Creepers
Jeepers is one of Gracie's seven kids from two different litters. Being the most adorable (and he had very tough competition), he's the one that remains part of the immediate family. Last Valentine's Day he turned fourteen years old, but his attitude is still that of a little puppy. He wants to play from the moment he wakes up to the moment he crashes at the end of the day. We think his favorite saying would be "I never met a human I didn't like." If you don't want to play, he'll get you to play. We say that he is "U-shaped". He usually has his behind facing you (ready to be chased) and his head also facing you (baiting you to chase him). He USED to get into every dirt hole he could, just to keep you on your toes, but in the "mischief department" he's mellowed a tad. Not only a real treasure, but a testament to a happy childhood.

Gee Willikers
a.k.a. "G. Willi" |
G. Willikers ("G. Willi")
Although he is our "problem child", Inn ambassador G. Willi is the most loveable dog of the house. He can't function without constant human contact. When we acquired Willi he was the smallest puppy we had ever seen--think "fuzzy black baseball".. He had a pushed-in nose, a spaced-out stare, and he was so dark that we would lose him constantly. Well, his nose eventually popped out, and he has a little white fur mixed in to the black (now he's easier to find), but he still looks spaced out from time to time, the poor thing. He loves to get lost in the hallways and usually ends up in the guest rooms. If you spot him, chase him around a bit--he loves it, and try to get him to spin for you, it's his favorite trick (he's a little spinning lunatic). After you've tired him out bring the little space cadet back to the Innkeeper's house, but don't let him kiss you, he probably ate a dead worm for lunch.

Good Golly Miss Molly
a.k.a. "Molly" |
(Good Golly) Miss Molly
What can we say about Miss Molly? Sure, at first glance, with her almond-shaped eyes and soft, sable coat she is, quite frankly, breathtaking. One of the prettiest dogs you will ever see. But when you get to know her there are other words you'll want to use to describe her. "misfit", "complicated", "confused", "nut job", and quite often (but always said with love), "freak". You go right, she goes left. You go outside, she wants in. When we wake up, she goes to bed. You'll have to take our word on this--the chances of you actually spotting her are about the same as hitting the lottery or being struck by lightening--twice. Ever the illusive animal, we should have named her "Sasquatch". We've created a sort of game show for our guest called "Molly Spotting". Here's the challenge: After you settle into your stay, see if you spot Molly and can get her to "engage" with you....Gooood luck (you might win a prize!).

Elvis and Priscilla
a.k.a. "Tom and Alice " |
Tom and Ali
Innkeepers and name-droppers Alice (Ali) and Tom have been in the hospitality business their entire lives--collectively from Hawaii to Nantucket. Prior to purchasing the Lamb and Lion Inn in 1999 they operated a 4-Diamond, 4-Star Inn and restaurant in New York's historic Hudson Valley. Through lots of passion, hard work, and a dash of insanity, the Inn was inducted into the prestigious Relais and Chateaux organization and enjoyed a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence yearly.
During their N.Y. career Ali and Tom have hosted countless notables---Barbra Streisand, Paul Newman, Mick Jagger, Meryl Streep, Kevin Bacon, Michael J. Fox, John Travolta, Uma Thurman---the list goes on and on. They hosted one of the late, great Isaac Stern's weddings, who, when asked by a guest to play his violin during the reception, retorted "Madam, you're not rich enough, and I'm not drunk enough". Now enjoying a more relaxed and low-key life on the Cape, Ali and Tom still wake up every morning ready to treat every guest like a rock star!
FOODIES!! Read Tom's CapeCodCulinaryAdventures Blog for some "off-beat" ideas on what to do, what to look for, and what to EAT while you're on Cape Cod, as well as some rants from an innkeepers who's just plain inhaled too much pool water--a must for any culinary adventurer! (the blog, not the pool water).
